The Terminator Line draws the boundary between day and night, brightness and darkness. Due to the Earth’s atmosphere, it’s never a sharp line; it’s gradual, blurry, tender.
On Earth, we catch a glimpse of the Terminator Line near the horizon. Those moments, we are reminded of our position as creatures located on Earth, spinning around the sun. We are reminded of the continuity of the ground beneath us, and the sky above us.
In Your Horizon Machine, we are looking back at the Earth, and imagining two solitary beings on two ends of the Earth, from somewhere in deep space. This gives us a unique perspective to see things we couldn’t see before – the terminator line, the alternating day and night, and the interconnectedness of our time, our space.
The world is a flux. The dichotomy gives place to the interchangeable, interdependent nature of the world. The alternation between home and alienation. The stability within chaos. The connection and isolation.
