Body in Flux

A Hermit Crab person seeking a shell
Exhibition & Collaboration
Independent Project

This project is about a hermit crab person seeking a shell in the flux.

I was shocked, and a bit overwhelmed when I’m at the Stony Creek Quarry. It’s transient. It’s dynamic. It’s always on the move.

This dwelling space is built out of a deserted rock. At the first encounter, it’s experienced as a temporary shelter from the overwhelming outside. The alternation of compression and release encouraged attention tobody, space, and light.

In a space of pure feelings, we become more sensitive tochanges — the way the quality and volume of light shifts across time, the way our body changes externally and internally.

We are also aware that this rock can be displaced at anytime. When its location and directionality change, a door becomes a window, a section becomes a plan.

In this sense, this space is also a miniature of flux. It’s embodying the message that there’s no permanent stability, as the world is always on the move.
